2010 AAU Junior Olympic Games to be Held in Huntington Beach, California

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks today announced a partnership with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), Team USA Hockey Club, USA Rollersports and The Rinks Huntington Beach Inline to bring the 2010 AAU Junior Olympic Games for Inline Hockey to Southern California from July 1-11.

It marks the first time in tournament history, (began in 1996) that the event will be held west of the Mississippi River. Approximately 4,000 athletes representing 400 teams from 10 different countries will travel to Southern California for the tournament. Huntington Beach Inline, part of the Anaheim Ducks’ The Rinks development program, will serve as the Junior Olympics headquarters with one additional local facility (announced at a later date) also hosting games.

“We’re very excited to provide a stage for the world’s top inline youth and adult teams to showcase their talents this summer,” said Huntington Beach Inline General Manager, Ken Murchison. “This is another great opportunity to continue the growth of hockey in Southern California and we look forward to welcoming athletes and their families to the area for this great event.”

In addition to this year’s AAU Junior Olympic Games for Inline Hockey, the Ducks have signed on to host the tournament in the future. Of the 400 expected teams in 2010, over 200 are California-based, more than any other single state or country. The AAU hosted its first AAU Junior Olympic Games for Inline Hockey in 1996, consisting of 20 teams competing within one age group. Tournament organizers expect over 400 teams will compete in numerous age groups and divisions, approximately 50 international teams will travel to Southern California from countries as far away as China (Hong Kong), Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Germany and France. Canada, Mexico and Columbia have also committed numerous teams.

The AAU Junior Olympic Games for Inline Hockey will be separated into several divisions, consisting of both club and international competition. The AAU is the only organization that provides five guaranteed games for participating teams in all age divisions. Each team will compete in a four-game round-robin pool before being seeded in a playoff bracket. In addition to the AAU Junior Olympic Games for Inline Hockey, the Ducks and AAU have also teamed with the Federation of International Roller Sports (FIRS), the international governing body of inline hockey, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, will bring the inaugural Junior Women’s World Cup Championships to Huntington Beach as well.

“On behalf of all participating organizations and the world governing body, we are looking forward to our best Junior Olympics ever,” said AAU National Hockey Chair Keith Noll. “Our organization is thrilled to have the opportunity to join forces with the Ducks organization to bring this prestigious tournament to the West Coast for the first time.”

Huntington Beach Inline is an original member of the Anaheim Ducks’ The Rinks development program. Launched in February 2009, the Ducks now operate four local skating facilities consisting of two ice rinks (The Rinks Anaheim ice and The Rinks – Westminster ice) and two inline facilities (The Rinks – Huntington Beach Inline and The Rinks – Corona Inline). Huntington Beach Inline is located at 5555 McFadden Ave., Huntington Beach, CA 92649.

Myrtle Beach – 10 Year Opener Was A Blast

2hot4iceThe Alex Ovechkins, Eric Staals and Vinnie Lecavaliers of the National Hockey League are already about one-third of the way through the 2009-10 season. And the minor-league professionals and collegians have been going at it since the first of November. But the weekend before Thanksgiving, the hockey spotlight was finally on the most important hockey players in the world. Our youngsters and teenagers – along with four adult teams — were at a rink in Myrtle Beach having a delightful time playing 2Hot4Ice hockey.

The site was the SportsZone. The occasion was the first 2Hot4Ice regional qualifying tournament of the new season. All of the teams that competed during the weekend of Nov. 20-22 are now eligible to pursue the dream of a 2Hot4Ice national championship at next June’s National Games at the SGAA Dual Deck in suburban Atlanta on June 24-27, 2010.

Topping the list of Myrtle Beach qualifiers are the 12U and 14U Dream Sports Dragons Red. They finished in first place in their respective divisions. The 12U team won three games in a row after dropping 2-0 and 2-1 decisions to the Speed and Richmond Rattlers. DSD Red beat the Rattlers 4-0 in the 12U title game. Justin Boone and Jackson Foltz of the Red were named the winners of the Deebs Young Award and the top goalie, respectively. The Rattlers’ Jordan Mansini was the top dishman.

The DSD Red marched undefeated through the 14U division, notching three shutouts in five games. The Red topped off its run with a 6-1 victory over the Speed V2.0 in the division finale. (more…)

10th Annual National Games

Nats_large10 Years of Passion, Adrenaline, Heart, Mad Skills and ‘Killer’ Roller Hockey!

2Hot4Ice gets ready to launch it’s 10th year of delivering first-class Hockey tournaments. This year will be an absolute celebration of why this is the best sport on earth and a way to say thank you to the best people in hockey…the players, coaches and parents of those who play 2Hot4Ice!

We want to start out by announcing that our 2010 National Games will be held for the first time in Atlanta, GA. When 2Hot4Ice storms into Atlanta from June 24th to June 27th, it will mark the coming together of the most die-hard Hockey teams getting together one last time to determine a National Champion. As I write this here in October, I am already excited and can’t wait for Nationals to start! Planning for Nationals has already started and trust me when I say it will blow you away.

The site for this year’s national championships will be the South Gwinnett Athletic Association’s Dual Decks complex (SGAA) in Snellville, a community about 20 miles from downtown Atlanta. The recently renovated facility is surrounded by a variety of motels, restaurants, movie theaters and other recreational venues, including the ever-popular Stone Mountain Park. A short drive across the metro area brings the giant Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park into play.

The 2Hot4Ice-SGAA relationship is as old as 2Hot4Ice itself. “I’ve been coaching 2Hot4Ice tournaments since 2000,” says Ronnie Williams, operations director for the SGAA and the coach of 21U and PRO adult teams. “They’re very professional and more family oriented than other, bigger series. They deliver fun family atmospheres at every event.”
