PIHA is excited to welcome the Chicago Sting for the 2010-2011 season as part of the newly formed Midwest Division. Other teams in the division will include St. Louis Snipers, Midwest Tornadoes, River City Wheelers, and Detroit Revolution. The Sting plan on one pro and two minor league teams, and tryout information will be announced in the near future.
The team, co-owned by Mark Costanza and Pete Messina, is expected to be comprised of players who have experience at the highest levels of inline hockey, including State Wars and Winter Wars. Costanza will lead the team’s efforts off the floor and has a great relationship with the team’s new home, while Messina is a three-time USA Roller Sports Team USA gold-medal winner and skates with the Tour Mudcats.
“We are excited to welcome the Sting to the PIHA family,” said PIHA President CJ Yoder. “They will benefit from having an experienced staff, a group of talented and excited players, and a great home facility. We wish them luck in their inaugural season!”
The Sting, sporting blue and gold uniforms, will play their home games at Hat Trick Hockey (Salt Creek Sports Center) in Palantine, Illinois. The rink has stadium seating and suite availability for games. For more information, please stop by www.saltcreeksportscenter.com.
