We began both our midget platinum division today and D – 1. Two games brought huge crowds to rink one and two for viewing, the Mission Labeda Snipers and AKS game, which Mission won, 2 – 1 and the Buffalo Wings and Pama Cyclones game in which the game finished in a 6 – 6 tie. The Snipers are with Phil Maroon at the helm as Tim McManus was unable to make the trip due to State Wars committments. The team also had a scare as Johnny Mac went down to block a shot in the first half, only to be hit in the throat with the puck. Being the true competitor he is, Johnny returned to action to finish the game and support his team’s win.
We are into over 556 games so far for NARCh and it’s a great time to check out these two divisions. The play is fast, hard and furious. Great to see IIHF gold medal winners Nathan Sigmund and Loren Barron out there with AKS. Barron, has been with AKS since late 1999. A tribute to head coach Scott Accongio and his abilities to maintain and keep players who have grown up under his tutelage.
In midget platinum we saw the Tour Stealth and Sherwood Park Stealth end their game in a 0 – 0 tie, the second one of the tournament. Mission Black Ice ’92, Moxy Mission Velocity, Tour Excitement 91′s and the Bordercats all won their preliminary games this morning and early afternoon. The Colorado Kodiaks and the Tour Oakville Coyotes tied their game in a 2 – 2 stalemate. As I am writing this, the midget’s are playing their second games of the day.
D – 1 opened their action with a pool of some of the best 24 and under talent in the nation and amongst those teams, The Snipers, Reebok JR. Eschelon Ducks, Las Vegas Tour Rebels, Mission Habs, and the Reebok Eschelon Jr, Ducks HB all won their games, while Pama and the Buffalo Wings deadlocked at the buzzer in a 6 – 6 game.
The Mission Habs, Las Vegas Tour Rebels, Reebok Eschelon JR. Ducks HB and the Mission Labeda Snipers went 2 – 0 on the day, while Pama would tie both their games and Buffalo would tie and split. The ISCA Grizzles managed a tie in their first game of the day.
Stay tuned for more from the world’s greatest roller hockey as we continue with our platinum divisions beginning!
