Published on October 26, 2010 with No Comments

The New Jersey Grizzlies played 4 games this weekend with a chance of getting 8 points and came out with 6 of them.  Splitting with the Sting on Saturday afternoon and sweeping  the Typhoon on Sunday.  Although the statistics were not available for Saturday’s game, Sundays line is below.

With opening night festivities taking a huge role in the afternoon, the Pro Grizzlies focused on getting four points.  “We can’t keep giving away points, we needed 4 points today” says Co-Captain James Manganaro.  The Grizzlies honored a special bunch of Mite Players from their own ISCA Learn to Play Hockey Program along with several players from the Lyndhurst Roller Hockey League as well.  “The kids had a ball and ISCA put on a great show for them” says Lyndhurst Hockey and New Jersey Grizzlies Equipment Manager Chris Sofio.  Then the honors for the TORHS Midget A National Champions and retiring of Mark Wyckoff’s #77 commemorating all he has done for the team, finished off the pre-game ceremonies.  It was game time.

The Grizzlies would be down early 1-0, but a goal from Matt Grossi on a pass from Mike Keating and Nick Allison tied the score at 1-1.  Then a few minutes later, Mike Keating would find the net on a power play shot from the point set up by goaltender Andrew Goworek.  Score at the end of the first period would be Grizzlies 2, Typhoon 1.  The Grizzlies would pour it on with the games next three goals.  James Manganaro would score off a feed from Robbie Fulton and Chris Wolf, Phil Cocozzo would score on a pass from Matt Grossi and Chris Wolf, Chris Wolf would score his own goal on a pass from Mike Keating and Phil Cocozzo, Grizzlies would be up 5-1.  The Typhoon would cut the lead to 5-3 with two quick goals before being answered on a end to end rush from Mike Keating again set up by goaltender Andrew Goworek.  Game 1 would finish 6-3 Grizzlies.

Game 2 would be no different.  The Grizzlies would again be down 1-0 early before taking a 3-1 lead on goals from Mike Keating set up by Robbie Fulton, Jon Lucente set up by Keating and Fulton, Fulton set up by Cocozzo.  The Typhoon would make it 3-2 quickly before the Grizzlies scored the next 4 goals, Jim Redstreake from Grossi and Manganaro, Tim Fulton(His first Pro Goal) from Keating, Manganaro from Wolf and Cocozzo and finally Redsteake from Grossi and Keating.  Grizzlies win 6-3.  The Grizzlies improve to 5-2-1 on the season  with 11 points.  Their next match up will be at Harrisburg to face the Raleigh Dragons on Saturday October 30, 10:00am and 10:40am.
