Just a few minutes north of Detroit, the Sports Forum, located in Clinton Township played host to the Midwest Inline Hockey Association’s (MIHA) Detroit area roller hockey tournament. Some of the regions best players and teams competed against each other to earn a bid to the MIHA championship event in Grand Rapids on March 26-27th.
The top division featured several top teams in the Midwest. The AIHL’s Detroit Motor City Phoenix added Pat Lee to their roster and only had one lost, which was to Josh Hill’s Top Shelf Hockey out of Mount Morris, Michigan in the championship game with a score of 6-5. Other teams in the top division featured PIHA’s Detroit Revolution and the Grand Rapids Giraffes who picked up Chris Street of the AIHL – Georgia Syndicate, along with Oakland University ice hockey players and graduated MCRHL – Grand Valley State University players who were on the D2 National Championship team of 2009.
The lower division (T2) was a battle among six teams. Entering the elimination
round, the Detroit – Rizzo Services and Detroit – Rocketsauce earned the top two spots only to get knocked off in the first round by the Chi-Town Shamrocks – Green and the Lansing Drev Hellhounds. The Chi-Town Shamrocks would win the T2 division led by Charlie Vasseur and Kyle Saunders who combined for 38 points, 25 goals, and 13 assists during the tournament.
MIHA is a new tournament series in the Midwest, which plays qualifying tournaments in Detroit, Chicago, and Grand Rapids. The league is based on being affordable, competitive, and is player friendly with full-length games, scheduling, and awards. Please visit www.MIHAhockey.com for more information.
