On September 12, 2010, NCRHA Executive Director Brennan Edwards attended the Interscholastic Hockey Federation (IHF) Coach and Manager Meeting in Irvine, California. In attendance were over 65 coaches and managers of high school roller hockey teams from all over Southern California.
Edwards gave a breakdown of the NCRHA, including the NCRHA mission statement, the regional organization of the NCRHA’s 7 Member Organizations, a recap of the 2010 Collegiate Roller Hockey National Championships, NCRHA roles/responsibilities, and some benefits the student-athletes receive by playing collegiate roller hockey.
This meeting was a great way to get the word out to the largest high school roller hockey league in California and one of the largest in the nation, especially considering that a large percentage of these players will directly funnel into the NCRHA in the next 4 years. Some members present are also NCRHA coaches and parents, rink operators and sponsors.
Also in attendance were IHF’s sponsors, most notably Dave Reskey from Mission Hockey, who supports both the IHF and the NCRHA. Jeffrey David from H&S Ventures (the parent company of the Anaheim Ducks) demonstrated the support of the Ducks to help champion this cause as well as the challenges ahead for certification by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for Roller Hockey as a Varsity sport.
