Saturday AM Update from the NARCh 2011 Winternationals

Published on January 15, 2011 with No Comments

We witnessed some great action yesterday. Squirt, Peewees, and Bantams kicked off the tourney and each team in these divisions has played 2 games so far. A lot is still up in the air, but many teams are 2-0 while others are 0-2.
Men’s Platinum looks to be very tight competition with no blowouts and the only undefeated squad after 2 games being the Tour Rebels. They’ve got 8 goals for and 5 against, showing just how tight it is. With 4 of 7 teams making the playoffs, I’m sure it will come down to the last game to see who’s in or out.

10 teams make up our Men’s Silver Division, which is also tight. Only one team has two wins, TMD. Only one team has two losses, Rubin. One of those losses was by the score of 2-1. It’s pretty amazing that these two divisions are so competitive when there’s no qualifying process to pre-determine where teams belong.

NARCh Pro is a 5-team division and all 5 teams are very solid. Going into the tourney you honestly wouldn’t be surprised if any of the 5 won it. After 2 games Pama is the only undefeated squad. Over the years at Winternationals we’ve seen Pama lose early, sneak in the playoffs somehow, then go on to win the whole thing. Now that they’re in the driver seat for playoffs we’ll see if they can sustain the intensity. AKS has been an up and coming team for a few years that everyone respects, but they looked a little flat yesterday and are the only team in the division without a win. The format is that 3 of 5 teams make the playoffs, and we’ll know who’s in by tonight. The #1 seed has an advantage and a bye, so that’s huge. As always, there is 10k up for grabs. More importantly the NARCh Pro Title, which is the most recognizable pinnacle in the sport.

Every single team in the tourney plays today, which means some teams will only have 1 game today. Some people will probably choose to go out and enjoy the day. With the great hockey, I suspect most will be hanging out to soak it all in, so the Plex will be pumping!
