State Wars Hockey will be running a new feature this off season where we interview some of our major sponsors. We want our readers to have a chance to learn more about the great companies who support our sport and get educated about their product and their goals. We had a chance to speak with Jay Russell of Alkali Hockey…enjoy!
Q: How long has your company been in existence? Who started it? Alkali Hockey was founded in Feb 2011 by Joe Cook and Justin Hoffman.
Q: What is your mission statement? Alkali Hockey is the only company in the Roller Hockey industry that is solely focused on designing, manufacturing, marketing and selling Roller Hockey specific products. It is our goal to provide the Roller Hockey customer and the dealer base the best quality and service in the industry. It is important in this market to focus on what’s right for the consumer, while at the same time making sure the dealer base is provided the necessary tools to succeed. We at Alkali Hockey believe and are striving to provide to both parties just that, a complete focus on quality product and branding strategies, while still allowing our sports dealer base to continue to prosper.
Q:What is your main product line? For the 2011-2012 season we will focus on 6 categories: sticks/ gloves/ pants/ skates/ bags and roller hockey protective.
Q: Is there one item in your line that you are most proud of? Yes, we are most proud of the new line of skates… a lot of time and development goes into this category and we are thrilled with the outcome.
Q: Cost is always a factor, do you have product for players of all skill levels and of all different price ranges? Yes we do offer different models at different price points…at this point you can pick up a mid-level product packed full of great technology with the consumer in mind (play and price).
Q: How long have you been a sponsor of State Wars? This past year (2011) was our first and what an amazing year it was!
Q: What are your personal thoughts about the concept and event itself? We think there is something for everyone that participates in a State Wars event. From your entry level players first time tournament play experience to the Elite Player competing for $8+ k . SW does an amazing job at putting a twist to the norm of tournament play…competing for bragging rights to prove your state yields the best players with in that age bracket.
Q: How is the atmosphere at State Wars and the foot traffic at your booth? The atmosphere is electric from start to finish…with tournament play running through out the day there are plenty of competitive games to enjoy. Off the rink there are players/ parents/ fans enjoying the vendor displays (usually showcasing the new lines to be offered for the upcoming year). Did we mention the pins…if you don’t know you’ll have to experience it for yourself first hand.
Q: If you could change one thing about the sport of roller hockey what would it be and why? We would like to see the leading organizations of the sport focus more effort and money towards growing the sport.
