State Wars players go to Europe!

Published on November 26, 2010 with No Comments

Roller Hockey players from across the United States seem to be getting great opportunities overseas. This season there are many players from North America who are currently playing professionally in Europe. State Wars players like Stephen Campbell (California Mission Axiom), Joey Doran (California Pama Cyclones), Tom Youmans (New Jersey ISCA Grizzlies), and Mike Campanaro (New Jersey ISCA Grizzlies) are all playing in Italy. Tom Youmans and Mike Campanaro are both playing for an up and coming team in Ferrara, Italy. While they are in Ferrara, West Coast boys, Stephen Campbell and Joey Doran are playing in a city called Civitavecchia, which is located just outside of Rome.

Missouri Native and State Wars staff member PJ Tallo has relocated to Mallorca, Spain for the 2010-2011 season. Mallorca is a beautiful island where they have some of the best Roller Hockey in the country. Itan Chavira (California Pama Cyclones) has also signed a contract in Spain where he is playing in Valladolid. Valladolid is always a highly competitive club who are always considered one of the best teams in Europe. Junior Cadiz (California) and John Petito (New York) have also joined Chavira in Valladolid this season.

Stephen Campbell- “The fans are full of energy, and the hockey is way faster and more exciting”

PJ Tallo- “It’s very fun playing here. The level is different but very professional at the same time. It makes you feel like you are playing in the big leagues.”

Tom Youmans- “Mike and I are having a great experience out here and the people in Italy are great. We have been treated so well and with loads of respect.”

Not only do the guys have a place to play but the women do as well! State Wars player Jen Gonzalez (Team Colorado) is currently playing for the Rubi Cent Patins in Barcelona, Spain. Surprisingly, the women’s league is just as big as their men’s league.

Some of the teams have qualified for the European Championships (Anglet, France) where other teams have qualified for the Confederation Cup (Trieste, Italy). There are many other players making the trip to Europe next week as well. New Jersey native, Dominic Mariotti has been playing in Trieste, Italy this season and will be playing in Confederation Cup. Gerry Osterkamp and Juaquin Chavira of the California Pama Cyclones got the call from a team out of Villeneuve, France and will also be playing in the Confederation Cup as well. Canadian player, Dave Hammond has been picked up by Tres Cantos (Spain) where he will also be making the trip to Italy. State Wars National Director, Greg Thompson (New York Mission Snipers) will be meeting, Hammond, Mariotti, Osterkamp, and Juaquin Chavira, where he will be playing for the Rubi Cent Patins.

While those guys are in Italy competing in the Confederation Cup, Doran, Campbell, Tallo, I. Chavira, Cadiz, and Petito will competiting for the European Championships! Good luck to all of the players competiting in Europe!
